#MTGov Daily Rundown: Legislator Highlights Bullock's Failures on Infrastructure
In 2012, Governor Bullock campaigned on infrastructure, however, in 4 years he failed to deliver on the campaign promise. Despite the legislature sending him two bipartisan infrastructure bills, he vetoed both, leaving Montana high and dry.
State Rep. Mike Cuffe took Bullock to task in a recent editorial for his failure to work with the legislature on infrastructure.
“'Darned Poor Judgment' is the rating I give Gov. Steve Bullock for infrastructure performance during the past four years!
Clear back in 2013 the governor’s bad judgment became obvious. That year the Legislature passed a fix for oil boom infrastructure by a heavy margin, only to have the governor kill it with a veto. In 2015 I chaired the Appropriations Subcommittee for Long Range Planning. That gave me a close up look at the governor’s one-way thought process. Take it or leave it. No changes. No discussion. It’s the exact opposite of how leaders should behave." -Flathead Beacon, 9/23/2016
Bullock has vetoed multiple infrastructure bills while the state has languished for 6 years without major infrastructure legislation.
In 2013, Bullock surprisingly vetoed a $35 million infrastructure bill (with a $300 million surplus) for cash strapped Eastern Montana counties affected by the oil and gas boom. It passed with large bipartisan majorities.
"’He basically took the same plan I passed nearly one year ago – and the bill he vetoed, he’s calling his own,’ state Sen. Rick Ripley, R-Wolf Creek, said at a GOP news conference Wednesday. ‘Sounds like another campaign trick, if you ask me.’” –Sen. Ripley

“For six years, the Legislature has failed to approve a major infrastructure funding bill, or Bullock has vetoed the measures to balance the state budget.” -Billings Gazette, 7/5/2016

“’That was a bad one,’ [State Sen. Duane] Ankney said. ‘Because all indications were he was signing that bill, so I was really surprised.’” -Missoulian 7/2/2016
In 2015, Bullock VETOED the very same Infrastructure bill he’s now campaigning on.
